INTRODUCTION

Remote sensing, as a direct adjunct to field, lithological and structural mapping, and more recently, GIS have played an important role in the study of mineralized areas. It involves understanding the application of remote sensing in lithological, structural and alteration mapping. Remote sensing becomes an important tool for locating mineral deposits, in its own right, when the primary and secondary processes of mineralization result in the formation of spectral anomalies. Reconnaissance lithological mapping is usually the first step in mineral resource mapping. This is complemented with structural mapping, as mineral deposits usually occur along or adjacent to geologic structures, and alteration mapping, as mineral deposits are commonly associated with hydrothermal alteration of the surrounding rocks. In addition to these, understanding the use of hyperspectral remote sensing is crucial as hyperspectral data can help identify and thematically map regions of exploration interest by using the distinct absorption features of most minerals. Finally coming to the exploration stage, GIS forms the perfect tool in integrating and analyzing various georeferenced spatial data in selecting the best sites of mineral deposits or rather good candidates for further exploration.

This course mainly reviews different uses of GIS and Remote sensing in the mining and geology industry.

METHODOLOGY

The instructor-led pieces of training are delivered using a combined learning approach and comprise of presentations, practical sessions, and online tutorials. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience, working as professionals and trainers in these fields.

All facilitation and course materials will be offered in English. The participants should be reasonably proficient in English.

ACCREDITATION

Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued with Profound Research Services (PRC) certificate certified by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).

TRAINING VENUE

The training will be held at PRC Training Centre. The course fee covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments, and lunch.

All participants will additionally cater for travel expenses, visa application(where applicable), insurance among other personal expenses.
